1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This is a spring‑loaded, vertical‑lift check valve specifically engineered for cryogenic service. The valve is manufactured from forged austenitic stainless steel and features an extended bonnet to isolate the body‑bonnet gasket and closure thread from the extreme cold, preventing ice formation. The disc is spring‑assisted, which ensures rapid, chatter‑free closure and allows installation in horizontal (preferred) or vertical upward flow lines. The valve is intended for non‑return duty in liquid nitrogen, liquid oxygen, liquid argon, LNG, and other clean cryogenic media.

The standard seat configuration is metal‑seated (Stellite® overlay) for long service life. A soft‑seated option with a KEL‑F® (PCTFE) insert is available for zero‑leakage, bubble‑tight shut‑off.

4. MATERIALS OF CONSTRUCTION

Part No. Component Material Standard & Grade
1 Body Open die forged ASTM A182 F316/F316L (1.4401/1.4404)
2 Bonnet (Extension) ASTM A276 Type 316L – cold worked
3 Bonnet (Upper) ASTM A182 F316L
4 Disc ASTM A182 F316, seat overlay Stellite® Grade 6
5 Seat (Integral) Body seat machined with Stellite® Gr.6 overlay or KEL‑F® insert
6 Spring ASTM A313/A276 316 Stainless Steel
7 Bonnet Gasket Spiral wound SS316L inner ring + PTFE filler, captured in groove
8 Bonnet Bolting ASTM A193 B8M Class 2 + ASTM A194 8M, PTFE coated
9 Lifting Plug / Cap ASTM A182 F316L (for maintenance access to disc/spring)
10 Identification Plate Stainless Steel 316, riveted

All pressure‑containing forgings are subject to Charpy V‑notch impact testing at –196 °C with minimum 40 J average (ISO 28921‑1). Full traceability to EN 10204 3.1 is standard.

5. PRESSURE – TEMPERATURE RATING (ASTM A182 F316/F316L Body, ASME Class 2500)

Temperature (°C) Max. Working Pressure (bar)
–196 to 38 425.0
50 417.0
100 396.0
120 386.0

Ratings are non‑shock and in accordance with ASME B16.34, material group 2.2. For intermediate temperatures, linear interpolation is permissible. The extended bonnet maintains packing area at ambient temperature; it does not affect the pressure‑temperature boundary.

6. DIMENSIONS & WEIGHTS (Butt‑Weld Ends, API 602 Class 2500 Short Pattern)

Nominal Size DN NPS Bore Ø (mm) Face‑to‑Face L (mm) Height H (open) (mm) Wt. Approx. (kg)
15 ½″ 14 140 245 6.2
20 ¾″ 18 152 265 7.8
25 1″ 24 178 295 10.5
40 1½″ 36 216 350 18.0
50 2″ 46 254 420 28.5

Dimensions are typical for butt‑weld Schedule XXS pipe bore. For different pipe schedules (e.g., Sch 80, 160) the bore diameter and weld preparation will be adjusted. Certified outline drawings are available on request. Larger sizes up to DN100 are possible with reinforced body design.
