API 602 Close Die Forged Globe Valves
Description
API 602 Open Die Forged Globe Valves
Technical Data Sheet
1. Product Overview
This series of API 602 Open Die Forged Globe Valves features body and bonnet manufactured from solid forged steel using the open-die forging process. The forging ensures continuous grain flow, dense structure, and complete absence of casting defects, delivering excellent high-strength and impact resistance. Designed in strict accordance with API 602, these valves are suitable for severe service conditions in refineries, petrochemical, chemical, power generation, and oil & gas production applications, including high pressure, high temperature, or cryogenic environments. They are used for shut-off or throttling of pipeline media. The valves are available with bolted bonnet, welded bonnet, or pressure seal bonnet configurations to meet Class 150 through Class 1500 pressure ratings.
2. Design Features & Benefits
Open-Die Forged Body: Body and bonnet are formed from premium steel ingots via open-die forging, ensuring high material integrity and reliable mechanical properties.
Compact Construction: Outside Screw and Yoke (OS&Y) design positions stem threads outside the pressure boundary, protected from process media and allowing easy lubrication.
Blowout-Proof Stem: A stem shoulder prevents the stem from being ejected even under abnormal pressure conditions.
Replaceable Seat: The body seat can be integrally hardfaced or fitted with a replaceable seat ring for convenient field maintenance.
Reliable Sealing: Conical or spherical disc faces mate with flat or tapered seats, ensuring tight shut-off. Bonnet joint utilizes graphite/metallic spiral wound gaskets.
Low Operating Torque: Precision trapezoidal stem threads, with optional rolling element thrust bearings, provide ease of handwheel operation.
Multiple End Connections: Available with Flanged (RF/RTJ), Threaded (NPT/BSPT), Socket Weld (SW), and Butt Weld (BW) end connections.
Full Compliance: Capable of supplying EN 10204 Type 3.1 material certificates, API 607/6FA fire-safe certification, NACE MR0175 sour service, etc.

8. Installation & Maintenance Instructions
Verify that the valve nameplate pressure, temperature, and materials are compatible with the process pipeline before installation.
Standard globe valves are designed for “low inlet, high outlet” flow direction. Install with the flow arrow on the body aligned with the line media direction.
For flanged connections, tighten bolts evenly and diagonally to avoid undue stress.
If the packing gland leaks, the nuts can be evenly tightened while the line is under pressure. Do not over-compress. To replace packing, the pipeline must be depressurized.
Welded bonnet valves have no body-bonnet gasket leakage point. When the seat is worn, refurbish through the bonnet access port (if provided) or replace trim entirely. After repair, pressure test per API 598.
