Description

U Section Flange Butterfly Valve — 30″ 150LB FF

TECHNICAL DATA SHEET

1. General Description

This is a 30-inch, Class 150, U-section flanged, centerline resilient-seated butterfly valve with flat face (FF) ends. Both the body and disc are of cast construction. The U-section body design allows the valve to be clamped between two pipeline flanges using full-length through-bolts, combining the compact face-to-face length of a wafer valve with the installation stability of a flanged-end valve. It is also suitable for dead-end (end-of-line) service. The centerline concentric design features a replaceable rubber seat, ideal for moderate-pressure, large-bore isolation and flow regulation applications.

6. Design & Manufacturing Features

One-Piece U-Section Body: The body features a U-shaped cross-section with integral flanges on both ends. It is installed by clamping between two pipeline flanges using full-length through-bolts. This combines the compact face-to-face length of a wafer valve with the alignment accuracy and end-sealing capability of a flanged valve, and uniquely enables dead-end (end-of-line) service without a downstream mating flange.
Centerline Concentric Design: The disc, stem, and seat share a common centerline. The disc quickly lifts off the seat upon opening, resulting in minimal friction, low operating torque, and reduced seat wear.
Replaceable Full-Liner Seat: The rubber seat features a tongue-and-groove design that completely encapsulates the body, isolating it from the line media. No additional flange gaskets are required. The seat is field-replaceable for easy maintenance.
Anti-Blowout Stem: The stem is internally loaded with an integral shoulder, preventing stem ejection in compliance with API 609 requirements.
Positive Disc Connection: Internal square drive with taper pin or keyway connection ensures reliable torque transmission without external penetrations that could create leak paths.
Self-Adjusting Stem Seal: Multi-lip seal or O-ring design automatically adjusts to pressure and temperature variations.
Corrosion Protection: Body and disc are coated with epoxy resin powder, minimum dry film thickness ≥ 300 μm for excellent corrosion resistance.
ISO 5211 Top Flange: Standardized mounting interface for direct connection to gearboxes or various electric/pneumatic actuators.
7. Pressure-Temperature Ratings Reference

(Ductile Iron body, EPDM seat, Class 150)

Service Temperature (°C) Max. Allowable Working Pressure (MPa.g)
-10 ~ 50 1.6
80 1.4
100 1.2
120 (EPDM max) 1.0
Note: EPDM upper limit ~120 °C; NBR ~80 °C; Viton (FKM) up to 200 °C. Select seat material accordingly.

8. Inspection, Testing & Documentation

100% pressure tested per API 598 / ISO 5208: Shell (1.5× rated), Seat (1.1× rated). Leakage meets Rate A (no visible leakage).
Cast body chemical composition and mechanical property reports provided.
Standard documentation: Material certificates, test reports, certificate of conformance, and I&M manual. EN 10204 3.1 certificates available upon request.
Valves coated with epoxy; flange sealing faces and U-section grooves cleaned and protected.
9. Typical Applications

Municipal water supply, drainage and wastewater treatment
Seawater desalination and cooling water circulation systems
Power plant cooling water, firewater and process water lines
HVAC building services water systems
Petrochemical and pipeline transportation (low-pressure section isolation/regulation)
10. Additional Selection Notes

Seat Material: Standard EPDM for water and weak acid/alkali media, -20~120 °C. Select NBR for oily media, Viton or PTFE for high temperatures and aggressive chemicals.
Body/Disc Material: Standard is Ductile Iron + Ni-plated disc. For corrosive media, consider full stainless steel (CF8/CF8M), aluminum bronze, or duplex stainless steel.
Actuation: Gearbox is standard for 30″ large bore. For electric/pneumatic actuators, specify power/signal parameters, stroking time, and area classification.
Mating Flanges: The U-section valve is directly clamped between pipeline flanges using through-bolts. No additional gaskets are required. Pipeline flange bolt length must account for the valve face-to-face dimension.
Dead-End Service: This valve can be installed at the end of a pipeline (no downstream connection) at full rated working pressure. Please specify this requirement when ordering.
