Full PFA Lined Butterfly Valve – Lugged Type
Description
Technical Data Sheet
Product: Full PFA Lined Butterfly Valve – Lugged Type
Body: ASTM A395 Ductile Iron, Internally Fully Lined with PFA
Disc: CF8M (316 SS) Core, Fully Encapsulated in PFA
Type: Concentric Disc, Full Bore, Bubble-Tight Shutoff
1. General Description
This valve is a fully lined, concentric disc butterfly valve engineered for the most demanding chemical and high-purity services. Every wetted surface is completely isolated from the metal body and disc core by a thick, seamless PFA (Perfluoroalkoxy) liner and encapsulation. The PFA material offers superior chemical resistance, enhanced temperature capability, and exceptional non-stick, anti-permeation properties compared to PTFE. The interference fit between the PFA-lined disc and the PFA body liner provides a bi-directional, bubble-tight seal without requiring a separate seat ring. The lugged body design permits dead-end service and downstream pipe removal while the upstream side remains pressurized.

6. Pressure–Temperature Ratings
The maximum working pressure is determined by the lower of the A395 body rating and the PFA lining capability. Table based on Class 150 body and virgin PFA lining.
| Temperature (°C) | Max. Working Pressure (bar) |
|---|---|
| -29 to 50 | 19.6 |
| 100 | 16.5 |
| 120 | 14.5 |
| 150 | 12.0 |
| 180 | 10.0 |
| 200 (intermittent) | 8.0 (consult manufacturer) |
Test Pressures (Ambient Water)
Shell Test (1.5 × CWP): 29.4 bar
Seat Test (1.1 × CWP): 21.6 bar – Zero leakage
7. Installation and Maintenance Notes
-
Orientation: Install with the stem horizontal or vertical. Do not install with the stem pointing downward.
-
Dead-End Capability: The fully lugged body permits downstream pipe disassembly while the upstream line remains at full rated pressure. Tighten lug bolts per torque specifications.
-
Flange Gaskets: No separate flange gaskets are required – the PFA liner face provides an integral sealing surface. However, thin PTFE envelope gaskets may be used if flange faces are damaged.
-
PFA Sensitivity: PFA is softer than PTFE and can be damaged by sharp objects. Never use metal scrapers or wire brushes on the liner.
-
Operation: Do not exceed the fully open/closed stop. Use a gearbox for sizes ≥DN200 or when frequent throttling is required (note: this is an on-off valve, not recommended for throttling).
-
Maintenance: The stem packing is externally adjustable. If stem leakage persists after gland tightening, replace the V-ring set with the valve closed and the line depressurized. Bearings and seat are integral to the PFA liner and are not separately replaceable – the entire body liner must be replaced if damaged.
-
Spark Test: A high-voltage spark test (10–15 kV) should be performed after installation or any maintenance to confirm lining integrity.
