Technical Data Sheet

Product: Non-Rising Stem (NRS) Gate Valve – Bronze Trim, Key Adapter Operated
Typical Standard: AWWA C500 / C515 (Resilient or Metal-Seated)

1. General Description

This valve is a non-rising stem (NRS), flanged or mechanical-joint gate valve specifically designed for buried service in potable water, raw water, sewage, and fire protection systems. The stem does not rise during operation, making it ideal for installations with limited vertical space. The valve trim (stem, disc facing, seat rings) is manufactured in bronze to ensure corrosion resistance and long service life. Operation is achieved via a key adapter (2-inch square operating nut) mounted on top of the stem, allowing actuation with a standard T-key or valve key from grade level. A surface box or extension spindle can be provided upon request.

2. Design, Manufacturing & Inspection Standards

  • Design & Manufacture: AWWA C500 (Metal-Seated Gate Valves) or AWWA C515 (Resilient-Seated Gate Valves) for waterworks service.
For Fire Protection: UL 246 / FM 1120 (Hydrant/Gate Valves).

  • Pressure Rating: Class 125 (200 psi WOG) or PN10 / PN16 (Typical: PN16)

  • Flange Connection: ASME B16.1 Class 125 (Cast Iron) or ASME B16.5 Class 150 (Steel); EN 1092-2 PN16 (optional)

  • Face-to-Face: AWWA C500 / C515 Short Pattern or Long Pattern (as specified)

  • Inspection & Testing: AWWA C500/C515, API 598 (shell & seat tightness)

  • Coating: AWWA C550 (Interior/Exterior Fusion-Bonded Epoxy) or equivalent

Note: Dimensions are typical for flanged PN16 short-pattern valves with standard key adapter head. For extension spindles or gearboxes, height will vary. Final certified drawings prevail.

6. Pressure-Temperature Ratings (Ductile Iron Body, Bronze Trim)

Temperature (°C) Maximum Working Pressure (bar)
-10 to 38 16.0 (PN16) / 13.8 (Class 125)
50 15.2
82 13.4

Test Pressures (ambient temperature)
Shell Test: 1.5 × CWP → 24.0 bar (PN16)
Seat Test: 1.1 × CWP → 17.6 bar (PN16)

7. Installation & Maintenance Notes

  • Install in a horizontal or vertical pipeline with the stem pointing upward. Avoid inverted installation.

  • For buried service, use a valve box or surface box to protect the key adapter and ensure the operating nut is accessible from grade with a standard T-key.

  • When backfilling, ensure no side load is transmitted to the valve; thrust blocks should be installed as required.

  • Regularly exercise the valve (fully open/close) once per year to prevent seizing.

  • The packing gland can be re-tightened while the valve is in service. Replace packing if leakage persists.
