DN1400 PN16 EPDM Fully Internal Lined Butterfly Valve — Technical Data Sheet

1. General Description

This DN1400 (NPS 56″) PN16 butterfly valve is designed with a fully internal lined construction, where the body and disc are completely encapsulated with EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) rubber. The concentric (resilient seated) design ensures complete isolation of all metallic components from the process fluid, providing bi‑directional zero leakage. The valve is ideally suited for large-diameter water, wastewater, seawater, and general industrial non-oil fluid applications.

Available in double-flanged, wafer, or lug body configurations, it is typically supplied with a manual gearbox as standard. Electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic actuation are also available. All design, manufacturing, and testing are conducted in accordance with applicable EN/ISO standards.

7. Actuator Mounting & Operation

7.1 Top Flange Mounting

The top flange conforms to ISO 5211 for direct mounting of quarter‑turn actuators and gearboxes. For DN1400, a large‑size mounting base (e.g., F35 / F40 or custom) is provided, often integrated with a robust manual gearbox.

7.2 Operation Modes

Mode Description
Manual Gearbox Standard supply; double‑reduction gear with handwheel for low rim pull
Electric Actuator On‑off or modulating, 3‑phase AC or 1‑phase AC / DC supply
Pneumatic Actuator Double‑acting or spring‑return, requiring high‑volume air supply
Hydraulic Actuator For high‑torque, fail‑safe, or subsea applications
8. Key Features

Full Isolation — The body and disc are completely encapsulated with EPDM, eliminating any metal contact with the medium and providing excellent corrosion protection.
Low Torque Operation — The naturally low friction of EPDM, combined with self‑lubricating bearings, reduces operating torque and prevents sticking, even after long static periods.
Bi-directional Sealing — The integrated EPDM seat and the spherically machined, fully lined disc ensure bubble‑tight shut‑off in both flow directions.
Blow‑out Proof Stem — Safety step design on the stem prevents ejection under maximum rated pressure.
Standardized Mounting — ISO 5211 top flange allows direct mounting of standard gearboxes and actuators.
Excellent Aging Resistance — EPDM offers outstanding resistance to ozone, UV, weathering, and permanent set, ensuring long service life.
No Maintenance — Self‑lubricating bearings and robust rubber lining eliminate the need for routine lubrication.
Low Flow Resistance — Streamlined disc profile and full port body design minimize pressure drop and turbulence.

12. Important Notes

This technical data sheet provides typical product data based on general industry standards. Exact dimensions, weights, and performance ratings shall be per the final vendor-certified drawing.
The pressure–temperature ratings are typical for an EPDM lining; the final envelope must be validated per the manufacturer’s specific data and test results.
EPDM is NOT compatible with mineral oils, greases, hydrocarbon solvents, or aromatic fluids. Ensure the process medium is free of such contaminants to avoid swelling or degradation of the lining.
For vacuum services, consult the manufacturer to confirm full vacuum capability within the specified temperature range.
Large‑diameter valves (≥DN1400) are heavy and require proper handling and sufficient pipe supports. Lifting lugs are normally provided on the valve body.
All valves are hydro‑tested per EN 12266‑1. Optional lining integrity spark testing can be added to the purchase order.
For potable water applications, ensure the EPDM compound is certified to the relevant local standard (e.g., DVGW, WRAS, NSF/ANSI 61).
