7. Trunnion Ball & Actuator-Ready Features
-
Trunnion Design: The ball is supported by upper and lower trunnion shafts housed in self-lubricating bearings. This reduces operating torque significantly compared to a floating ball design, particularly in larger sizes and higher differential pressures, allowing smaller, more economical actuators.
-
Low Operating Torque: The trunnion absorbs line pressure thrust, leaving only the seat friction and bearing friction to be overcome by the actuator. Torque values are provided for each size to assist actuator sizing.
-
ISO 5211 Integration: The top flange is cast integrally with the body and machined to ISO 5211. Stem ends are supplied with a square or keyed drive (double-D on request) to match standard actuator couplings. An indicator block for visual position confirmation is included.
-
Anti-Blowout Stem: The stem incorporates an internal shoulder that bears against the body, preventing ejection under pressure even if the packing gland is removed.
-
Self-Relieving Seats (Optional): Cavity pressure relief slots on the upstream seat allow trapped overpressure to vent to the pipeline, protecting the body cavity from excessive pressure buildup.
8. Application Scope
-
Suitable Media: Fresh water, seawater, glycol, light oils, compressed air, natural gas, diesel fuel, and various non-aromatic hydrocarbons. Bronze is inherently resistant to dezincification and corrosion in marine and brackish environments.
-
Temperature Range: -29 °C to +177 °C (continuous, dependent on seat material; body rated to 177 °C).
-
Key Features:
-
Ideal for automated on/off control where direct actuator mounting is required without additional adapters.
-
Bronze body offers excellent corrosion resistance and long service life in water and marine duty.
-
Trunnion design reduces torque, permitting smaller actuators and lowering system cost.
-
Two-piece bolted body allows in-line maintenance without removing the actuator (the top-mount pad stays fixed; the body halves can be separated).
-
Full-bore design (standard) provides minimal pressure drop and piggability.
-
9. Optional Configurations & Accessories
-
Seat Materials: R-PTFE (15% glass filled), PEEK (up to 260 °C body permitting), metal-seated for abrasive slurries.
-
Threaded Ends: NPT or BSPP available up to 2″, with ISO pad.
-
Fire-Safe Design: Graphite secondary seats and stem seals for API 607 certification (note: bronze body fire-safe limited to certain fire exposure times; consult factory).
-
Manual Override: Declutchable manual gearbox permanently mounted on actuator top; or handwheel for valve-only option.
-
Extended Stem: For insulated pipelines or buried service, with extended ISO flange.
-
Live-Loaded Packing: Spring-loaded gland maintains seal during thermal cycling.
-
Limit Switch & Positioner Mounting: The ISO 5211 pattern also accepts NAMUR solenoids and switchboxes via auxiliary mounting kits.
-
Cleaning for Oxygen Service: Per CGA G-4.1 on request.
